Kind of weird to have someone talking about CFS with pictures like this, isn't it?
It wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't undertaken a lifestyle of extreme mold avoidance a long
time ago. I know this, because if I grow lax about this protocol, I go downhill quickly.
Not a cure - just staying alive in relative comfort.
I told Dr Cheney at the beginning of the CFS epidemic when I warned "There will be vast numbers
of people just like me. There will be carnage".
This is back when as far as the CDC was concerned, there were only a few hundred of us.
Now I'm watching the formerly harmless "mold allergy" turn into the toxic scourge of the world.
No matter what anybody thinks in terms of causality for CFS, "Toxic Mold" is kicking butt like crazy - and it's getting worse.
People are reacting to this paradigm about like they did to the Titanic - waiting until the water is up to their necks before they head
for a lifeboat.
But the sensitivity is not the illness!
Amazingly enough, when I first started mold avoidance, there was no discernable reaction to mold for
several hours. That's what made it a REAL bitch. I had to remember where I had been four hours
before, and make the connection.
But the more I recovered, the more sensitive I became.
People think that the sensitivity IS the illness. It's not. It's the body trying to WARN you. But people
aren't listening to the warnings and are trying overpower it using "The Power of The Mind".
Big mistake! Should have listened to what the body was trying to say.
"If we don't already know it, then you can't prove it......"
Put yourself in Dr John Snow's place.
Back during the Great London Cholera epidemic, the mainstream didn't know about germs. Oh, they had their suspicions, but it
wasn't "proven".
But John Snow could see 'the effect': People who clustered around a certain public water source were dropping like flies. He didn't
need to nail down the precise etiology to make that connection. He didn't have to prove anything to take advantage of the
phenomenon which he could clearly observe.
By acting in accordance with the reality that people who obtained water from that well, and pursuading the city officials to put a lock
on the pump handle - he interceded in the "effect" and stopped the chain of cholera transmission.
He wasn't validated until later, after science caught up with what was, after all, a very simple observation.
At the beginning of the CFS epidemic, I saw that people who were in the presence of mold were dropping like flies. I told everyone
about it, but they said that mold had been around forever, so this couldn't be right.
While they stayed in the presence of mold - and continued to manifest symptoms, I simply acted in accordance with the "effect' and
asked doctors to find out why. They refused, for exactly the same reasons that the mainstream doctors argued with John Snow:
"If we don't already know it, then you can't prove it - and we aren't going to do anything until we can prove it".
Well, I didn't wait for the science. And that's why I've got pictures of myself on top of Mt. Whitney, while doctors are finally going "Hey,
you know? I think that crazy Erik asshole wasn't half as nuts as we thought".
Funny how people have been worried about the creation of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria, and they completely forgot that
mold reacts to antimicrobials by ALSO developing mutant strains.
OOPS!
The Disinterest Response
I figured that as a prototype for CFS, I would be able to ask for research into a few specific things.
.
People ARE looking for answers, aren't they?
Not only did this NOT happen until Dr Shoemaker defied the universality of the sheer
"disinterest response" from everyone who ever claimed to be investigating CFS for the last
twenty years, but now that he has PROVIDED some of the answers I was asking for, people don't
want to hear it.
If people remember the story about the fool who was looking for his car keys under the streetlight, this is about the same as having
someone else find the keys, pick them up and fit them into the lock, saying "I think I found them for you", and having the foolish driver
throw them away because where they were found wasn't under the streetlight...
"where it is easier to look".
And if THAT's not enough... then having the idiot driver accuse the good samaritan who found the keys of being mentally unstable
for asking "I SHOWED you that they fit your car. Why on Earth did you throw away your keys?"
Of all the things I never expected, I sure never expected this.
How could it get any crazier? What's next?
Will CFSers just automatically start "oblivionating" anyone who is researching CFS or who claims to know ANYTHING about it?
Dr Ritchie Shoemaker made a brilliant presentation at the 2009 IACFS/ME conference in Reno, which basically lays out the
fundamentals.
Now it remains for "CFS researchers" to take an interest in those of us who have always been interested in "The Mold Connection to
Illness".

Erik Johnson on "Mold Avoidance" and CFS
I didn't have to leave Incline Village to practice avoidance.
That was my front porch in the foreground.
That big building in the back" That's Dr. Peterson's office.
That's how close I was, and he wouldn't listen to me.
